The San Diego Equine Safety Net Coalition
was founded in January 2010 to assist the equine community in San
Diego County and initiated by a grant from the American Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). The funds were
made possible by the estate of Edith Hakes. The Coalition meets
monthly and plans programs for education and assistance for at-risk
horses and their owners, with the goal of keeping horses in their
homes. The Coalition also aids abandoned and neglected horses in
the county.
